Sangiovese, long misunderstood and blended with other grape varieties, has only been vinified on its own for a few decades. The greatness and potential of Sangiovese is fascinating. Similarly to Pinot Noir, it isn't easy to grow and vinify, and well is incredibly sensitive to the location where it is grown. Although the vineyards at Castagnoli are very close together, the fruit that they produce can show remarkable differences. Therefore, we divided our eleven hectares of vineyards into 19 parcels, which we harvest, ferment, and vinify separately. Each vintage, allows us to create a Chianti Classico that best represents Castagnoli's land and the year it was produced.

91pts Decanter-Farmed organically for over 50 years, Castagnoli’s 11 hectares of vineyards sit on terraced slopes held up by dry stone walls. Interspersed with olive trees, individually staked bush vines soak up the radiated heat and southwestern sun. The 2019 demonstrates generous ripeness, juxtaposed with cool, high-altitude perfumes and buoyancy. It charms with an intense mix of sweet garden herbs, savory spice, tobacco, and dense red berries framed by firm yet silky tannins. Succulent blood orange pierces through on the warming finish.

It is simply called "Rosso Pietro", not only because it is the red wine at the base of the Pietro Arditi range, but also in reference to his red beard - although today, jokingly speaking, he claims that the name should be updated to "Grigio Pietro" (Grey Pietro)!

The scent of black cherry and black currant stands out on the nose, then of fern and cloves, while in the mouth there is an excellent pleasantness to drink with a persistent finish of acidic fruits. It is the typical "all meal" wine that is pleasant and adaptable to any type of table.

Tuscany is home to the Chianti region which is the most famous region for Sangiovese. When Sangiovese became the required major grape in Chianti during the 1970s, the other noble grapes (Cab and Merlot) ended up creating a new style of wine: Super Tuscan

Most wine lovers associate Piedmont with the famous reds of Barolo, but as anyone who has visited the region knows, it’s large, complex, and full of surprises. Nebbiolo is a grape with high tannins and a pale color that has long been famous for its bristling acidity and high tannin.
