YouTube, podcasts, Reddit, group ride MAMILs — it seems like everyone is telling you to wax your chain because it's faster, cleaner, and cheaper in the long run. But waxing is a bit of a hassle and wax has poor durability in rain and mud. So is it a good idea to wax your chain for big events like Unbound Gravel? We've had two mud years in a row, so maybe not... Watch the Video At this point, I've raced on dry lube, wet lube, and wax with varied results. I like the performance and cleanliness of hot melt wax, but I acknowledge that it has a couple of downsides too. I give my thoughts on different lubes, try to demystify chain waxing, and explain the chain lube strategy I plan to use on race day to ensure my chain is ready for anything.
