Mountain bike handlebars are simple, right? Yes... but also, no. If your hands get sore, beat up, and fatigued on rough trails, then having a bar designed for comfort can make all the difference.
For the last few years, the OneUp Carbon handlebar has been the king of compliance. But now, OneUp has some serious competition.
The all-new PNW Loam Carbon handlebar has been built using CBD (not that kind! it stands for "Compliant Bore Design") to optimize wall thicknesses and increase vertical compliance without sacrificing any horizontal stiffness. PNW calls it an "al dente" handlebar.
It's not exactly designed to take down the OneUp Carbon handlebar, but rather, to provide an option for riders who want more comfort without giving up the extra control and predictable handling of a stiffer bar.
I take a closer look at this new handlebar, and provide my early thoughts on how it rides. Spoiler: It's probably staying on my bike, and I'm buying more for my whole quiver!
