Frieze at the 60th Venice Biennale

The Venice Biennale opens next week and Frieze is partnering with the British Council to support John Akomfrah’s British Pavilion commission.

The artist, who received a knighthood in 2023, is known for his investigations of issues of racial injustice, colonial legacies, diasporic identities, migration and ecology, across art films and multi-channel video installations.

Akomfrah describes his work at Venice as ‘an encounter with the ancestral spirits of the pavilion’.

The 60th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia – is on view from 20 April–24 November 2024.
