Often, we focus on major components like engines and transmissions, but there are several commonly neglected maintenance items that deserve attention too. From wheel bearings to brake hoses, these parts play a vital role in your vehicle's performance and safety. To help you get your car ready, use code SUMMERFIX to save $20 off $199+, $50 off $499+, and $100 off $999+ sitewide and up to 10% ADDITIONAL savings on over 11,000 products. Don't wait, FCP Euro's Summer Kickoff Sale ends 5/28! Explore All Deals For Your Car - Up To 10% Off Wheel BearingsEngines and transmissions get all the attention. However, we regularly take for granted the parts that let our vehicles roll. Wheel bearings support the vehicle's weight while letting the wheels spin freely, but only when in good shape. When they begin to fail, they’ll still spin but introduce play into the affected wheel that’ll become shaking at speed accompanied by a loud hum. In extreme cases, the bearing can seize, causing the wheel assembly to break away from the vehicle. All of that is avoided with a wheel bearing replacement. Oil Change KitsEven though oil changes are the most frequent required service for any vehicle, proper intervals still get ignored. That’s a big issue for many modern cars scheduled for a change every 10,000 miles. That figure pushes the limits of oil, so going beyond that is almost sure to leave excess deposits in oil passageways and accelerate the wear of rotating components. Break out the jack stands and grab yourself an FCP Euro oil change kit, it’s an inexpensive and simple way to keep your engine running right. Control ArmsKeeping your wheels in place over all the bumps and curves in the road is strenuous, but your control arms are prepared for it. However, treating them as a lifetime part isn’t a good idea. Their bushings will wear out and introduce play into the suspension, causing nervous handling and excess wear on every other component in the suspension. If you see any cracking, tears, or leaking coming from your control arm bushings, it’s time for an arm replacement. Shock & StrutsHow’s your ride comfort? Feeling a little soft and squishy lately? It’s time for some struts. They normally control the up-and-down motion of the suspension, but when they begin to leak, they lose pressure and struggle under the vehicle's weight. Along with renewed comfort, fresh dampers will revive some agility and cope far better with a vehicle packed to the brim for a road trip. CV Boots & AxlesUnsung heroes within the driveline, your axles take all the abuse of transferring engine torque to the wheels. The constant stress and flexing of the suspension will eventually wear down the grease inside the CV joints if their protective boots don’t rip beforehand. Clucky CVs and torn boots are bad news and can leave you stranded if ignored for too long, so they should be repaired or replaced as soon as possible. Ball JointsAlong with rubber bushings, ball joints play a significant role in controlling suspension movement. They’re generally resilient and can last up to 100,000 miles, but that’s only if their boots remain intact. When they rip, the grease that allows for free and lubricated movement is pushed out until the joint is dry, resulting in rapid wear and a sloppy, ruined ball joint. That will lead to twitchy handling and excessive tire wear, so it’s best you replace them as soon as you can. Motor / Transmission MountsEngines and transmissions are full of vibrations at all times. Their mounts are rubber or fluid-filled to absorb those harsh movements, but their service life is limited. Controlling all that movement takes a toll, so it’s not uncommon to find a higher-mileage vehicle lacking proper drivetrain support. Failing to replace those mounts will affect handling and can damage surrounding components in the engine bay as the engine moves around with excessive freedom. Brake HosesRotors, pads, fluid, and even the master cylinder are discussed more than the lowly brake hose. Yet, the incredibly simple component is critical to a functioning brake system. Over time, the rubber lines can swell, tear, or crack, leaving you with a leaky brake system. The next time you’re flushing out that old brake fluid, spend an extra ten minutes refreshing your brake hoses, you won’t regret it. AlternatorElectrical issues are considered by many to be some of the trickiest to figure out. Yes, there can be seemingly ridiculous reasons for them, but more often than not, it’s an issue with the charging system. The alternator is the main component in that system, so its strength is paramount to perfectly functioning electronics. They’re pretty resilient parts, but after 100,000 miles, they will start to get tired. Take a few minutes to check your charging system and consider replacing that alternator; the last thing you need hundreds of miles from home is a dead charging system. If we wouldn't put it on our cars, we won't sell it to you. The FCP Euro Team No longer want to receive these emails? Unsubscribe. FCP Euro 155 Hill Street Milford, Connecticut 06460
