Hi! Today, March 18th, Esembly and 60+ other businesses across the country will be taking the day off to share a powerful message to Congress: It’s time to pass Paid Leave. This act of solidarity offers a symbolic look at what could happen as more women exit the workforce to take care of loved ones without the protections of paid leave. Paid leave impacts all of us, but for generations, women have taken on the vital work to care for the ones we love—without policy support, and little or no pay. It has cost us jobs, dreams, AND our physical and mental well-being. The U.S. is one of the only countries in the world that does not guarantee paid leave of any kind. Studies show that women’s participation in the labor force in the US is behind countries that offer paid leave. Women also lag behind men in jobs gained since the pandemic, and care needs are only anticipated to grow as the population ages. As co-founder of a small business AND a mother, I can tell you this is something very personal to me. I want to (and we do) offer our team members full paid time off to care for new babies and sick/aging parents, but doing so puts a very real stress on our small business's finances when we have no support. I firmly believe that it should not fall exclusively on businesses to provide employees with what should be a basic human right. And we’re not alone, two-thirds of small businesses support a national paid leave program likely for this very reason. So in honor of Women's History month, we are joining women across the country today to come together and write our labor back into history. Want to join the movement to support Paid Leave for All?
