Happy International Sloth Day!
I want to tell you about an organization that we donate to called The Sloth Conservation Foundation in Costa Rica. It may seem random for a Canadian company to support something so far away so I will explain. The natural beauty industry gets a lot of ingredients from the global south - coconut, cacao, palm, vanilla - so if we are importing plant
ingredients from these regions, we need to look at their impact. When areas are cleared for farming, roads, or housing, this impacts the wildlife drastically, especially canopy dwellers who don’t travel on the ground and when they do, it becomes dangerous. It’s like putting up a wall that restricts them from their regular travels and food sources. These animals resort to using hydro lines to get around and they get electrocuted. A lot of wires in the country are not insulated so they pose a huge
risk.
Our journey with The Sloth Conservation Foundation began after seeing a baby howler monkey get electrocuted near our rental. It had such an emotional impact on us that we starting brainstorming about how we could solve this problem. As fate would have it, they were
having a fundraiser that evening and we met these amazing people who were installing wildlife ropes all over the region so that canopy animals, like sloths and monkeys, could travel safely. They also work with the Costa Rican hydro company (ICE) to get wires insulated so they won't get electrocuted if they do come in contact.
The way we give is to donate 10% of all revenue from Magic Bean Body Lotion to The Sloth Conservation Foundation. This will be our third year donating! We chose Magic Bean because the ingredients - cacao, almonds, vanilla, and coffee - are all grown in this beautiful area. To celebrate World Sloth Day and this amazing organization, we
are putting Magic Bean on sale for 30% off, from now until Sunday.
As alway, thank you for your support!
